Coverage Overview

We offer two types of coverage to meet different family needs:

Family Plan (R120/month)

Covers: Main member + Spouse + Up to 3 children under 21

Maximum 5 people total

Standard Plans (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond)

Covers: 1 main member + 9 family members

Maximum 10 people total

Premiums range from R250 to R450/month depending on service level

All plans provide comprehensive funeral services. Higher-tier plans include premium items like better coffins, more family cars, additional chairs and tables, and groceries benefit (Platinum & Diamond only).

Groceries Benefit (Platinum & Diamond Only)

Platinum and Diamond plans include a groceries benefit to help support your family during the difficult time after a loss.

What's included:

The groceries are delivered as part of your funeral service package.

Optional Add-Ons

You can enhance your cover with optional add-ons. These benefits apply per claim (each time a covered member passes away). Add-ons are available for all base plans.

Example: Full Coverage

Platinum Plan (R400) + Top-Up Bonus (R20) + Nkomo (R200) + Tombstone (R200) = R820/month total

Per claim you would receive: Full Platinum funeral service + R1,000 groceries + R300 airtime + R10,000 Nkomo cash + R10,000 tombstone value = Comprehensive support

Add-ons can be added at sign-up or to existing policies. Contact us to add them to your current plan.

Who Qualifies as a Family Member

To prevent claim rejections, ensure all covered members meet these requirements:

Main Member (You)

Policy owner, must be 18+ years old

Spouse/Partner

Legally married spouse or life partner living with you

Children

Biological, step, or legally adopted children (covered until age 21, or 25 if full-time student)

Parents/Parents-in-law

Must be financially dependent on you (Standard plans only)

Extended Family

Siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles - must be blood-related AND financially dependent on you (Standard plans only)

Important:

Family Plan covers immediate family only (main member + spouse + up to 3 children). Standard Plans (Bronze-Diamond) can include extended family members who are financially dependent.

Waiting Periods

Natural death: 6-month waiting period

If a member passes away from natural causes within the first 6 months, premiums will be refunded but no funeral benefit is paid.

Accidental death: No waiting period

Full benefit paid from day one for death due to accidents.

Suicide: 12-month exclusion period

No benefit paid for suicide within first 12 months. Premiums refunded.

Switching from another insurer? If you've completed waiting periods with your previous insurer, these waiting periods are waived. Proof required.

Maximum Cover Amounts

Funeral policies in South Africa are capped at R100,000 per person (adjusted annually for inflation).

Current maximum as of 2025: Approximately R130,000

Child Cover Legal Limits:

South African law limits the total payout for children across all policies:

These limits apply across ALL funeral policies a child may be covered under, from all insurers combined.

Age Restrictions

Entry age: 0 to 83 years old at time of application

Children: Automatically covered from birth until age 21 (or 25 if full-time student)

Once accepted, cover continues for life regardless of age, as long as premiums are paid.

Repatriation Service

All plans include repatriation service to transport the deceased to their home area for burial.

Coverage includes:

  • • Transportation within South Africa
  • • Body preparation for transport
  • • Required documentation and permits
  • • Coordination with local authorities

Premium Payment & Grace Period

If you miss a premium payment, you have a 31-day grace period to pay without losing cover. After 31 days, the policy lapses and waiting periods apply again if reinstated.

Contact us immediately if you're having trouble paying - we may be able to help.

Premium Increases

Premiums may increase annually in line with inflation. You will receive at least 31 days' notice before any premium increase takes effect.

Exclusions

Benefits will not be paid if death results from:

  • • Suicide within first 12 months of policy start
  • • Death during commission of criminal activity
  • • War, civil unrest, or terrorism
  • • Misrepresentation or non-disclosure of material facts
  • • Death occurring outside South Africa for more than 60 consecutive days without prior approval

Premiums paid during waiting periods are refunded if a valid claim cannot be made.

How to Submit a Claim

Required Documents:

  • • ID copy of deceased person
  • • ID copy of claimant
  • • Proof of banking details for payout
  • • Completed claim form

Timeline:

Valid claims are processed within 48 hours of receiving all required documents.

Already Have Funeral Cover?

You can have multiple funeral policies, but be aware:

  • • Each insurer will pay their portion (not duplicate full amounts)
  • • Child cover limits apply across ALL policies combined
  • • You may be over-insured and paying unnecessary premiums

Cancelling Your Policy

You may cancel your policy at any time by giving us written notice. No refund is due for the current month's premium already paid.

Cooling-Off Period

You have 31 days from the policy start date to cancel and receive a full refund of premiums paid, provided no claim has been made.

Privacy & Personal Information

We collect and process your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

We use your information to:

  • • Administer your policy and process claims
  • • Verify identities and prevent fraud
  • • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements
  • • Communicate with you about your policy

Your information is kept confidential and secure. You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information.
